NEW HARTFORD, Conn. — 64 days into the ski season, Ski Sundown just got its biggest snowfall of the year. The snowstorm that blanketed the state was a reason to celebrate after a year filled with rain and warmer temperatures that have hampered conditions.
Bob Switzgable, the owner of Ski Sundown said as he was watching skiers and snowboarders descend down the mountain.
"Every year is different and this one has been a little lean with snow, but we are making up for it now and hopefully we continue to make up for it throughout March," he said.
Snowboarder Kennedy Claver made the trek from Stratford to hit the slopes.
"When I saw it was going to snow, I put in for a vacation day at work and was like I’m gonna be here all day," he said.
In the lift line, skier Ralph Cardia, from Avon, said he's happy mother nature let it snow.
"I think it's unbelievably silky, smooth, and soft and I’m thankful for Mother Nature cooperating," he said.
Switzgable, who has owned Ski Sundown for 21 years, estimated that Ski Sundown received upwards of seven inches of snow after the final flakes had fallen on the mountain from Tuesday's storm.
"This is exactly what we’ve been waiting for,” then he added, “there are a lot of happy skiers, and there are a lot of happy people," he said.
