Coffee, beer crafted at new West Hartford brewery

The new space on Shield Street caters to tastes all day long.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — There is no shortage of brewing going on in West Hartford. It’s where Cody McCormack is busy with both coffee brews and craft beer brews.

The WeHa Brewing and Roasting Company on Shield Street opened last October. The new space caters to tastes all day long, said McCormack, the owner.

“My thought was why not be open all day versus Thursday to Sunday and (having) limited hours – why not create this communal getaway place where people can come any time of day - whether it’s in the morning for a cup of coffee or at night for a beer,” McCormack said.

Longtime brewer Andy Schwartz joined the team at WeHa Brewing last year and is busy coming up with an array of offerings each week.

“This is a place for the community to get together here and have a craft roasted coffee, have an authentic craft beer with your friends and neighbors and support cool causes,” Schwartz said.

WeHa Brewing also just began food service called The Phatty Wagon Kitchen, which is run by Nick Glenn, who refers to his menu as a “Food Circus”.

“Food should be fun, to me it’s a circus; whatever is normal," Glenn said. "Why not make it abnormal and people have fun with it – you know, that’s what we’re trying to do here.”

“The coolest aspect is seeing both aspects come together,” McCormack added.
