The film is narrated by actor Gabriel Byrne and explores not just the potato failure that lead to mass starvation, death, and emigration in Ireland from 1845 to 1852, but the historical, social and political circumstances that made what is misleadingly called the great “famine” almost inevitable. The documentary also features the voices of several leading scholars of Irish history and is sponsored by Ireland's Great Hunger Institute.
The film will be premiere Tuesday, November 10 at 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Mount Carmel Auditorium at Quinnipiac University, 275 Mount Carmel Ave in Hamden. Interested people should register here.
