NEWINGTON, Conn. — A person was injured following an oil spill on Sunday afternoon after a driver crashed into Friendly's in Newington, police said.
According to police, at around 12:46 p.m., the Newington Police Department responded to a car crash at the Friendly’s restaurant at 3420 Berlin Turnpike.
Initial investigation determined that the driver of a Toyota Sienna crashed through the side of the building and a fryer inside the building was "displaced" during the crash, which spilled cooking oil on a Friendly’s employee, said police.
Police said the employee suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. There were no other injuries reported.
The crash severed a gas line servicing the restaurant as well as an electrical line, said police.
Connecticut Natural Gas responded to the scene and contained the gas leak. The Newington Building Department inspected the building and rendered the restaurant unsafe.
The crash is being investigated by the Newington Police Department as well as the Newington Fire Marshal.
Police ask anyone with information on this crash to contact the Newington Police Department at (860) 666-8445.
