BRISTOL, Conn. — A Bristol man has been arrested after hitting a pedestrian with a car and then getting into a crash on Route 72 in New Britain, according to police.
Bristol police were called to the 100 block of Pine Street after 10 p.m. Thursday, where responding officers found a person hit by a car. The victim was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The car that hit the victim left the scene and state police later found it minutes later in a separate crash into a guardrail on Route 72 East near Exit 1C in New Britain, state police said.
The driver and passenger ran off and were later taken into custody and to the hospital for minor injuries. The driver, identified as Soto Cruz, 21, was driving the passenger's car at the time of the two crashes, state police said.
Cruz now faces evading responsibility, operating under the influence, and numerous driving and vehicle charges. He was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
