Arrests made in Waterbury courthouse shooting: Police

Police said that additional arrests are expected.

WATERBURY, Conn. — A Meriden man and a Meriden woman were arrested this week in connection to a shooting homicide in Waterbury last month.

Waterbury police arrested 29-year-old Dante Howell in Middlefield on Wednesday and arrested 21-year-old Deera Nelson on Thursday for charges in the death of Jarron Chapman, 26, of Waterbury.

Chapman was shot as he was leaving the Waterbury courthouse on Grand St. on the morning of March 21 and died from his injuries at the hospital, police said.

Howell faces murder, conspiracy to murder, larceny and multiple firearms charges. He was held on a $5 million bond and was arraigned in court Thursday.

Nelson was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and hindering prosecution. She was held on a $3 million bond and arraigned in court Friday.

Police said that additional arrests are expected.
