Gas stations in multiple Connecticut towns hit by thieves

Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, Plainville and East Haven police departments reported armed robberies at gas stations overnight Sunday.

HARTFORD COUNTY, Conn. — Gas stations across multiple Connecticut towns were hit by thieves early Sunday, according to police departments in Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, Plainville, and East Haven.

At 11:53 p.m. on Saturday, officers in Rocky Hill responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Cumberland Farms on Cromwell Avenue.

Two men carrying guns while wearing masks and gloves reportedly entered the store and demanded that the clerk open a cash register and take out the cash, Rocky Hill police said. The clerk complied and was not injured.

According to Rocky Hill police, both suspects reportedly fled the Cumberland Farms parking lot in a white SUV and turned onto West Street towards I-91. The car was said to be a stolen white Toyota RAV4 with a Connecticut registration of 6AGAD1.

Rocky Hill police said that their detective division is working with other jurisdictions that also experienced similar robberies overnight that appear to involve the same suspects.

At  around 12:46 a.m., Glastonbury police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Mobil Gas Station on Main Street.

Glastonbury police said that based on a preliminary investigation, officers determined that two male suspects, around the ages of 18 to 25 years, robbed the store. One of the suspects allegedly pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the registers while the other suspect acted as a lookout.

At around 4 a.m., East Haven police responded to the Sunoco Gas Station on Frontage Road for a report of a commercial burglary.

Officers determined that two male suspects wearing masks entered the store by throwing a jack through the glass door, East Haven police said. The suspects stole cash, a large amount of vapes, and e-cigarettes before leaving in a stolen car bearing a Virginia Reg TTX6149.

According to Plainville police Sunday, officers are investigating a burglary after they responded to a break-in at the Gulf Gas Station on New Britain Avenue where multiple items were taken.

A connection between the break-in and robberies in other towns is unclear at this time, but officers are investigating the possibility that the same suspects were involved, Plainville police said.
