New Britain Republican Mayor reelected to serve sixth term

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Republican Erin Stewart was reelected for a sixth term to serve as Mayor of New Britain

According to unofficial results tallied by Republicans, Stewart received 4,539 votes beating Democrat Chris Anderson, who received 3,074 votes. Stewart also beat unaffiliated candidates Alfred Mayo and Angel Segarra who received 58 and 22 votes. 

This comes after Stewart and her husband Domenic announced the birth of their baby boy in early October. 

Stewart was elected in 2013. Steward has earned accolades for her leadership style of governing.

She was also the youngest mayor in the city’s history and the only woman mayor to be elected to more than one term.

During her time as mayor, New Britain has seen a major economic turnaround. During her first term, she closed a deficit of more than $30 million and increased the rainy day fund to $22 million.
