Overnight fire at Wampanoag Country Club in West Hartford

It took crews over an hour to access the attic to extinguish the fire from the roof and off of ladders, fire officials said.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Firefighters responded to a fire at the Wampanoag Country Club in West Hartford overnight Saturday.

A Wampanoag employee called 911 around 2:10 a.m. to report a fire at the country club's loading dock area.

Fire crews responded to find heavy fire at the loading dock and smoke coming from multiple parts of the roof.

There were also 20 lb. propane cylinders releasing gas and on fire, firefighters said.

It took crews over an hour to access the attic to extinguish the fire from the roof and off of ladders, fire officials said.

No firefighters were injured, and the person who reported the fire was the only person in the building and escaped without any injuries, firefighters said.

The UConn Fire Department assisted on scene and fire crews from New Britain, Hartford and Newington provided mutual aid support.

The West Hartford Fire Marshal's office is investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
