WETHERSFIELD, Conn. — Wethersfield police have charged a former Glastonbury police officer, who has been implicated in a number of crimes, with burglary for the second time.

Patrick Hemingway, 37 of Glastonbury, was charged with Larceny 1st Degree and Burglary 3rd Degree. He was immediately arraigned in court and then returned to the custody of the Department of Correction. He is being held on a $1 million bond in another case.

On May 4, 2023, police were called to Lucky Lou’s Bar and Grill, located at 222 Main St. in Wethersfield, for a reported burglary. Police said multiple items and cash had been taken from the business, totaling over $76,000. Hemingway was previously charged with burglarizing the Old Wethersfield Country Store.

According to his attorney, James Sulick, Hemingway worked as an officer in Glastonbury for about four years and was a New Britain officer for about 10 years. He resigned from Glastonbury effective September 1, 2023, to pursue a career in commercial aviation according to his resignation letter.

Hemingway was charged with first-degree computer crimes and making a false statement in October 2023.

That arrest warrant also alleges Hemingway logged into a police database at least 80 times over more than two years period to see if he was being investigated by other police departments.

Later that month, the Connecticut Superior Court unsealed the arrest warrant against Hemingway that alleges he committed more than 30 burglaries, targeting safes and cash registers at multiple businesses in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

All the burglaries happened while Hemingway was an officer with the Glastonbury Police Department, the warrant alleges.

Investigators with the Wethersfield and Glastonbury police departments and state police are still working to determine the scope of the alleged burglaries. They said in the arrest warrant that the alleged burglaries occurred between February 2023 and June 2023.

In November, he was charged with breaking into the Old Saybrook Pizza Palace in May 2023 while he was still a police officer, although nothing was taken at the pizza shop,

Prosecutors said Hemingway also broke into the Old Wethersfield Country Store where a cash register drawer was stolen with $200 inside.

He was arrested on Dec. 6 for allegedly breaking into Loco Perro Restaurant in East Hampton in March.

According to an arrest warrant, police were called to the restaurant on March 8 around 1:50 a.m. after a security alarm was activated. The business owner told police that security cameras inside captured an unidentified person removing cash from a register before fleeing in a vehicle.

Security cameras also spotted a Black Jeep Grand Cherokee in the restaurant’s parking lot just before the security alarms were triggered. A person tried unsuccessfully to get into the restaurant via a kitchen door before pulling a tool from his pocket.

After picking the lock, the suspect entered the restaurant and immediately went to the cash register. The suspect then leaves the restaurant.

After investigating the burglary, area businesses were asked to check for any additional burglaries that might have taken place that evening.

Police said surveillance video captured the same suspect attempting to pick the lock at the Lakeside Bar & Grill about 8 minutes after the burglary at Loco Perro Restaurant.

In January, he was charged in a burglary in Stratford. Police said he allegedly broke into Biagio Osteria, an Italian restaurant in the Ryders Landing shopping center, and stealing $500 from two cash registers inside. He is also charged with burglarizing two restaurants in Shelton.
