New Haven men arrested in 2019 Hamden homicide cold case

Darrelle McFadden and Patrick Ratliff-Jones are facing charges of felony murder and robbery in the first degree, Hamden police said.

HAMDEN, Conn. — Two men from New Haven were arrested in connection to the 2019 murder of Dennis Allen-Paige, Hamden police announced Monday.

The Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven facilitated the issuance of arrest warrants for Darrelle McFadden and Patrick Ratliff-Jones, who were both arrested on charges of felony murder and robbery in the first degree, Hamden police said.

On the evening of Dec. 8, 2019, officers arrived at Whiting Street in Hamden after a report of gunfire and found 21-year-old Allen-Paige on the ground with gunshot wounds. He later died from his injuries, according to Hamden police.

Police determined that Allen-Paige, who was three weeks away from turning 22, was killed during a street robbery that happened 100 feet from his Whiting Street home just after midnight.

Det. Sean Nutcher, who was assigned the investigation within the Hamden Police Department's Criminal Intelligence Unit, "provided a unique set of resources" given his assigned role with the New Haven Shooting Task Force, Hamden police said.

According to Hamden police, Nutcher, along with other investigators within the Criminal Intelligence Unit, were eventually able to identify a suspect through the use of "contemporary forensic science and traditional investigative techniques," and the "vibrant relationship" between their police department and New Haven's.
