A woman with a pocketknife was arrested after a trooper allegedly saw her hit the man, causing him to fall to the ground, state police said.

SOUTHBURY, Conn. — A woman was arrested Friday after allegedly cutting a man in the face during a road rage incident on Interstate 84 westbound in Waterbury, Connecticut State Police said.

According to state police, at 9:23 p.m., an on-duty trooper from Troop A in Southbury saw two cars parked in a hazardous spot along the right travel lane of the exit 23 off-ramp.

After pulling up in a cruiser behind the two cars to alert oncoming traffic about a hazard in the roadway, the trooper saw a man and a woman in a physical fight.

The man was found with a "significant" cut to his face and treated by EMS at the scene before being taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police.

The woman, identified as 35-year-old Shala Lovett of Waterbury, had a pocketknife in her hand and dropped it as the trooper took her to a safer spot in the right shoulder of the exit, state police said. The pocketknife was later taken as evidence for the investigation.

Lovett is being held on a $100,000 bond and is expected to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Monday, state police said.
