Naugatuck police were called to the park on the report of a man with a knife acting "erratically."

NAUGATUCK, Conn. — The Office of the Inspector General has released a preliminary report regarding an officer-involved shooting in Naugatuck last week.

According to the report, Naugatuck officers were called to Baummer's Pond Park on the report of a man with a knife acting "erratically." When officers got to the park, they found 24-year-old Kyle O'Creene near a picnic table, holding a knife.

The report states that when officers approached, O'Creene stood up and walked closer to the officers with the knife while ignoring multiple commands to drop it.

Naugatuck officers attempted to subdue O'Creene using a taser, but the deployment was "unsuccessful," according to the report. As O'Creene continued to advance on the responding officers while still holding the knife, Officers Crystal Hudson and Officer Joseph Palhete fired their handguns.

The shots struck and wounded O'Creene, who was immediately given medical aid before he was rushed to Waterbury Hospital for treatment, according to the report. O'Creene remains at the hospital in stable condition. The two officers involved also received medical attention but were okay.

The Office of the Inspector General also released the body camera footage from Hudson and Palhete.
