HAMDEN — Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has an 8-point lead over businessman Donald Trump in Florida, an important presidential election swing state, according a Quinnipiac University Poll released Tuesday.
Clinton, the leading Democratic candidate, is tied with the GOP leader Trump in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The poll found in Florida, Clinton leads over Trump 47 – 39 percent, compared to 43 – 42 percent on May 10. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont also tops Trump 45 – 39 percent.
In Ohio, Clinton and Trump tied at 40 – 40 percent, compared to a small 43 – 39 percent Trump lead in the May 10 survey. Sanders leads Trump 48 – 38 percent.
Closer to home, polling in Pennsylvania shows little change from May with Clinton at 42 percent to Trump’s 41 percent. Last month, Clinton had a one point lead, 43 – 42 percent. Sanders tops Trump 47 – 40 percent.
Quinnipiac said the poll focuses on Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania because since 1960 no candidate has won the presidential race without taking at least two of these three states.
