NEW BRITAIN- At 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, all of Connecticut was still under a state-wide travel ban.
But that's precisely when a local woman's water broke, prompting her husband to take the wheel and steer her to the hospital.
Sarah and Andrew Browning weren't expecting their son Graham Michael Browning until his scheduled due date, February 13. But late Monday evening into Tuesday morning, Sarah began to wonder if she was headed for labor.
Initially the couple says they thought it was false labor.
But when Sarah's water broke, they snapped into action, realizing that Graham was on his way, 2.5 weeks early...in the middle of a blizzard.
"My water broke so we figured it was time, it was about 1:30 a.m.," said Sarah.
Sarah is from California and Andrew is from Tennessee, so neither is very used to navigating snowy roadways.
"It was a little bit of a frantic moment because we hadn't totally prepared as far as baggage and luggage. We kind of through some stuff together and while she's doing that I'm trying to scrape a clear path to our car," said Andrew.
Sarah sat by anxiously as Andrew drove their car to the Hospital of Central Connecticut.
"I was thinking, this better not be false labor because I'm not doing this again!" said Sarah.
Her husband, Andrew, works at a Torrington church, and said the family's prayers guided them through the experience.
"I honestly wasn't thinking that much about the weather, as much as I was thinking about this guy, and if he was coming," said Sarah.
Graham certainly was on his way; he was delivered after 8:00 a.m. and weighed in at 5 pounds and 11 ounces.
Originally due February 13, he was not in the forecast for Tuesday.
"I kept blaming it on this guy (Graham) at first, I was kind of like, what is he thinking, he just wants to come out and see the excitement of the blizzard, or what? But I don't know, I'm just glad that he's here, he's safe, he's healthy," said Sarah.
The entire family is safe and healthy now, after a night for of surprises, and a blizzard experience unlike any other.
"It was incredible, it was really, really special, so we were excited, frustrated at the timing, but ultimately it worked out perfectly," said Andrew.
Graham is the Browning's first child.
They did say that if they have another, they won't mind if the baby's due during the summer.
