NORWALK– The Norwalk Boat Show is back in the Long Island Sound, celebrating 40 years of all things aquatic.
From the paddleboards to power yachts, the boat show caters to all kinds. This year, heads are turning toward one of the smaller crafts because “hanging ten” has more horsepower.
A 33-pound carbon fiber surf board called a Jet Surf is being showcased at the dock.
“The Jet Surf is this amazing new technology rising up through the water sports world,” said Carrie Waible, the spokeswoman from the Norwalk Boat Show.
A throttle attached to a cord provides the power, and riders steer the same way they would a standard surfboard – with their legs.
“It’s a lot easier than you’d think,” Waible said. “I’ve seen people learn in about 15 minutes.”
The Jet Surf can reach speeds around 35 mph, but skimming the water doesn’t come cheap: the base model sells for around $10,000.
“If you want to get noticed on the water, it’s flashy for sure,” Waible said. “But it’s also a lot of fun and a great workout.”
