We are waking up to a sloppy scene outside. There’s a good lesson to remember as we head back into another winter season: It doesn’t take a lot of snow or ice to cause trouble.

The moisture is slowly changing to rain as temps climb into the upper 30s and lower 40s. The ride home from work Monday will be much quieter than the ride in.

Another chance for snow Tuesday night leads into sunnier weather, however, the temps struggle all week, with high temps by midweek having trouble getting above freezing.

It’s a sloppy, ill-timed storm, but not a big one.

The problem: It’s the first one of the season for many of us, and a minor storm like this puts many into a false sense of security  – a feeling that says, “Hey, this isn’t a big deal.” And that’s how accidents happen.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Light precipitation falls across the state overnight, starting as snow and turning into freezing rain and rain by mid-morning. Untreated roads will be slick, and for the commute, I expect a lot of accidents.

Delays? Plan on it. Cancellations? Not many. This isn’t amounting to much – at worst an inch or two, and it’ll be done by the afternoon. Highs top out in the mid 30s inland, and mid 40s at the shore.
