HARTFORD — A water main break closed a section of Capitol Avenue Tuesday morning.
The break happened near Capitol Avenue and Beacon Street. Hartford Police said the road in the area could be caving in.
Morning commuters used West Boulevard or Park Street to get downtown. Officials expect the road to reopen by 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, clearing the way for the evening commute. Click here for more traffic information.
The Metropolitan District Commission said an 8 inch pipe broke Tuesday morning. The main was installed in 1910 and repairs could take 5-7 hours, MDC spokesperson Kerry Martin said in a statement.
The water main ws been shut down from Beacon Street to Prospect Avenue impacting two businesses, including a gas station, and a two-family home. Repairs to the main were completed around 12:45 p.m.
