WEST HARTFORD--Education was taken outside on Thursday for students at Smith STEM Elementary School and Conard High School in West Hartford.

The students launched two weather balloons with cameras attached into the earth's atmosphere--they even reached 100,000 feet!

Each balloon had a GoPro and a GPS system--which you can check out here!--so they could be monitored, as well as a parachute to land with and fun foods like marshmallows and potato chips.

The project was designed so students could monitor how high altitude and changing temperatures impact the items that were aboard the balloons.

Anthony Truss, a teacher, said it's all about the journey.

A balloon launched last year reached an altitude of 75,000 feet, and it eventually landed in Spencer, Massachusetts.
