Coffee shop focused on giving back | FOX61 Student News

“It’s important to make sure the coffee trade is sustainable."

FARMINGTON, Conn. — Story By Gage Barrow-Kulesza and Cecilia Kolenich  Farmington High School

Harrison Poltorak, owner and operator of Rebel Dog Coffee Company, sat down to talk about his business and its role in the community

The relatively new Rebel Dog has opened three Connecticut locations in six years: one in Farmington, Plainville, and East Hartford. Poltorak explained their stance on sustainable coffee production and sustainability in the industry, saying “It’s important to make sure the coffee trade is sustainable. [...] (We’re) doing the extra research to make sure that in the long run we’re still going to have coffee for many, many years, cause if we didn’t, it’d be a bad business model.”

He highlights how their valuable staff, ethically sourced materials, and giving back to the community have been extremely vital in maintaining the business. Throughout the interview,

Poltorak emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses, as they offer a more personable, authentic experience than most larger chains in the area.
