HARTFORD, Conn. — After the legislative session came to a close at midnight Thursday, Gov. Ned Lamont signed several bills sent to his desk into law, according to the governor's office.

Lamont signed "An Act Concerning the Reporting of Medical Debt," a law that prohibits medical debt from being reported to credit rating agencies. With this new law, health care providers and hospitals in Connecticut won't be allowed to report a person's medical debt to credit rating agencies to use in credit reports. It takes effect July 1.

The governor also signed "An Act Concerning Changes to the Paid Family and Medical Leave Statutes."

These changes will be added to legislation that established CT Paid Leave in 2019, which allows workers in Connecticut to take time off to care for one's health, a sick family member, or a newborn child.

The legislation expands the program to allow sexual assault survivors to use this program to take time off from work to seek care or focus on the criminal justice process.

The program has also been expanded to allow any of the state's federally recognized tribes to permit employees of the tribes to participate in CT Paid Leave.

The expansions to the CT Paid Leave program will take effect on Oct. 1.

Lamont also signed "An Act Concerning Dog Racing," which bans the sport and repeals any legislation that protected dog racetracks previously.

There are no active dog racetracks in Connecticut, and this law will prevent the "cruel" sport from making a comeback.

Former dog racing parks were located at Plainfield Greyhound Park and Shoreline Star Greyhound Park in Bridgeport. Both facilities closed in 2005.

Connecticut joins 46 other states that have banned dog racing. The law goes into effect Oct. 1.

Lamont signed other bills into laws, including "An Act Concerning the Redemption of Out-of-State Beverage Containers," "An Act Concerning Certification of and Casting of Ballots by Presidential Electors," "An Act Concerning Emergency Dept. Crowding," and "An Act Concerning Source Plasma Donation Centers."
