EAST HAVEN, Conn. — A man and two juveniles were arrested after hitting an East Haven police cruiser while attempting to flee with a stolen car, said police.

On Sunday at around 10:57 p.m., an East Haven officer was on a routine patrol when he ran the plates on a Kia Sorrento, which informed him the car had been stolen out of Waterbury on Nov. 14.

The officer followed the car on Main Street until responding units arrived in the area. Once responding units arrived, they tried to stop the stolen car that was occupied by four people.

The operator of the stolen vehicle, Douglass Cross, 24, of Waterbury, hit the front end of a police cruiser in an attempt to flee the scene, according to police.

Police said Cross then continued north on Hemingway Avenue and led officers on a brief pursuit before pulling over briefly on Harrington Avenue to let two juveniles out of the car. They were arrested.

Cross then continued on and eventually parked in a parking lot in the area of Main Street, exited the car, and led officers in a foot pursuit which ended in the backyard of a residence on Terrace Street in New Haven, according to police.

Police said there was a fourth suspect, who fled the car but was not apprehended.

Cross was arrested and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, criminal trover in the first degree, evading responsibility, assault on a public safety officer, and interfering with an officer.

The first juvenile was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, and possession of burglar tools. The second juvenile was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle.

Cross was held on a $20,000.00 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Both juveniles were scheduled to appear in juvenile court on Monday as well.
