ENFIELD, Conn. — A tanker truck fire on southbound Interstate 91 prompted the Connecticut State Police (CSP) to shut down a section of the highway on Thursday afternoon, with no injuries reported, officials said.
The incident was reported at 2:12 p.m. near Exit 48 in Enfield. The local fire department was dispatched to the scene. No one has been injured.
Initially, both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-91 were closed down. However, the northbound side has since been reopened. The southbound lanes remain closed at Exit 48.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) have been notified.
"We are currently unable to anticipate the duration of this closure and ask that anyone traveling in the area please seek alternate routes and plan for traffic delays," officials said in a statement.
