BERLIN, Conn. — A Berlin market is temporarily closed after a fire early Saturday morning, according to the town's fire department.
The fire department said that they responded at 1:39 a.m. to a fire alarm at Kensington Market on Farmington Avenue. Crews found smoke coming from the rear of the building and from the first floor.
Units from surrounding towns, including Wethersfield, Newington, Rocky Hill, and Cromwell, were called to the scene to assist, the fire department said.
Crews entered the building and found fire within a wall near the rear side, according to the fire department. The fire was brought under control two and a half hours later after firefighters worked to contain the damage to both the inside and rear of the building.
One resident was evacuated from an apartment on the second floor, the fire department said. There were no injuries reported.
The fire department said while the cause is still under investigation, the fire is currently believed to have started near a stove.
Kensington Market posted on their Facebook page that the business expects to be "closed for a few weeks" while the building is under repair. The community has since come together and offered "prayers, well wishes, love and support," according to the market.
