ENFIELD, Conn. — Enfield High School and CT State Community College Asnuntuck’s High School Partnership Program prepares Enfield students for college by providing firsthand engagement in dual-enrollment courses.

62% of American adults don’t possess a college education, mostly due to a lack of preparation during their secondary education. Enfield High School and CT State Community College Asnuntuck’s High School Partnership Program aims to change that.

Erin Clark, Principal of Enfield High School states, “We care deeply at Enfield High School about students exploring their interests and talents.” Clark is a firm advocate of college preparation and career exploration. Enfield High School encourages students to explore all kinds of post-secondary education, which is why they’ve teamed up with CT State Community College Asnuntuck to form the High School Partnership Program, in which Enfield High School students can take courses at the community college for no additional charge. These courses run during spring and fall semesters and allow students to gain college credits while enrolled in high school. Kyrah Spruill, a Senior at Enfield High School in the High School Partnership Program, is already well into her post-secondary studies.   Spruill, a student at Enfield High School, states that, “Right now, I have about 15 credits.”

Kyrah is a strong advocate for the dual enrollment program, along with many other students who utilize this opportunity. Spruill also states, “So, currently I am in a composition class. I highly recommend taking this opportunity.”

Students have the choice to attend classes on campus or take remote classes online. Eligible students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher have the option to take one course per semester, free of cost. The experience of taking college level classes has provided Enfield High students with opportunities found nowhere else in the state, such as transferable college credits to take to any 4-year college students wish through the High School Partnership Program. Roland Atkinson, coordinator of the High School Partnership Program finds that the program is incredibly beneficial to students both during and after high school.   Atkinson also states that, “They’re taking a higher education class. There’s nothing like taking part in something to actually prepare you.” Thanks to Enfield High School and CT State Community College Asnuntuck’s High School Partnership Program, Enfield students are entering colleges and the work force more prepared than ever before.
