HAMDEN, Conn — A Hamden man is dead after police said he was struck by a car on Dixwell Avenue.
The crash happened Thursday evening around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Saint James Street.
Police said 65-year-old Calvin Washington was crossing Dixwell Avenue and was struck by a car, driven by a Middletown resident.
Hamden first responders took Washington to Yale-New Haven Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene according to police and is cooperating with the investigation.
