Snowstorm updates: Clean-up begins around the state as snow winds down

Connecticut is currently under a Winter Storm Warning until Tuesday with the heaviest snow to fall overnight Monday into Tuesday, beginning to ease off by 6 a.m.

CONNECTICUT, USA — After going a whole winter with scant snowfall in Connecticut, the state woke up to measurable snow just as meteorological spring begins Wednesday.

Connecticut is currently under a Winter Storm Warning until Tuesday, with the heaviest snow falling overnight. 

Gov. Ned Lamont closed executive branch buildings for Tuesday as well due to the storm, which is projected to dump 4 inches to 8 inches of snow with some localized heavier amounts.

Gov. Lamont encourages folks to get out in the snow and snap pictures of their snowy creation! 

8:00 a.m.

The CT DOT website is mostly cleared of roadway incidents apart from one in North Haven. 

  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (TT Vs 2TT) on I-91 Northbound between Exits 10 and 11. The 2 right lanes are closed.

Some parts of the state are beginning to see the snow wind down. 

Off and on, lighter snows will continue during the day, with most of the accumulation should be on the ground by mid to late morning. Still, some snow will accumulate through the afternoon, especially in the hills.

7:30 a.m. 

FOX61's Lindsey Kane is on the road in northwest Connecticut, looking at the roads and conditions in the area while the snow begins to wind down.

7:00 a.m. 

Here is an updated list of ongoing road incidents as the snow begins to taper off across the state this morning:

  • SOUTHINGTON - Crash (1 Vehicle) on I-84 Eastbound between Exits 32 and 33. The left lane is closed.
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (TT Vs 2TT) on I-91 Northbound between Exits 10 and 11. The 2 right lanes are closed. 
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (Jackknifed) on RT 40 Northbound at Exit 1. The left lane is closed. 

6:20 a.m. 

A car was seen crashed into a retaining wall on Route 10 in Cheshire by FOX61 crews. 

There is no word on injuries at this time.

6:00 a.m. 

Many road incidents have been cleared from the CT DOT alerts website just in time for the morning commute. Here's an updated list:

  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (TT Vs 2TT) on I-91 Northbound between Exits 10 and 11. The 2 right lanes are closed. 
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (Jackknifed) on RT 40 Northbound at Exit 1. The left lane is closed.

5:30 a.m. 

Over 375 schools and other institutions have closed for the day and canceled classes. You check a full list of closings here.

Bradley International Airport remains open and reports that their snow removal operations are ongoing. 

They also said that as of 5:30 a.m., less than 7% of flights are canceled for Tuesday. As the airport's airline partners continue to adjust their schedules in response to the storm, additional cancelations and delays are possible, airport officials said. 

Passengers are strongly advised to contact their airline to confirm the status of their flight before heading to the airport.

5:00 a.m 

CT DOT reports the two right lanes are closed on I-91 north between exits 10 and 11 due to a crash involving multiple tractor-trailers. 

Here is a current list of road incidents:

  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (TT Vs 2TT) on I-91 Northbound between Exits 10 and 11. The 2 right lanes are closed. 
  • FAIRFIELD - Crash (Tractor Trailer Vs 1 Veh) on I-95 Northbound between Exits 22 and 23. The left and center lanes are closed. 
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (Jackknifed) on RT 40 Southbound at Exit 1. 1 lane is open.
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (Jackknifed) on RT 40 Northbound at Exit 1. 

4:30 a.m.

4:00 a.m. 

Several road closures overnight have cleared, according to CT DOT. Here is the updated list of closures:

  • ANSONIA - RT 8 Northbound CLOSED between Exits 19 and 21 because of Crash (Jackknifed). 
  • STRATFORD - Crash (Jackknifed) on I-95 Southbound between Exits 33 and 32. The right lane is closed.
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (Jackknifed) on RT 40 Southbound at Exit 1. 1 lane is open. 
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (Jackknifed) on RT 40 Northbound at Exit 1. The left lane is closed. 

3:30 a.m. 

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is reporting several crashes and road closures as the snow fell overnight:

  • ANSONIA - RT 8 Northbound CLOSED between Exits 19 and 21 because of Crash (Jackknifed).
  • STRATFORD - Crash (Jackknifed) on I-95 Southbound between Exits 33 and 32. The right lane is closed. 
  • NORTH HAVEN - US5 ( State Street) is closed in both directions between Stiles Lane and Devine Street because of a Crash on I-91 which is above this roadway. Due to this road closure, motorist are advised to seek an alternate route.
  • W. HARTFORD - Crash (Jackknifed) on I-84 Eastbound between Exits 43 and 44. The right and center lanes are closed. 
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (Jackknifed) on RT 40 Southbound at Exit 1. 1 lane is open.
  • NORTH HAVEN - Crash (Jackknifed) on RT 40 Northbound at Exit 1. The left lane is closed.
