The woman who was shot, Shadarean Ellison, was pronounced dead at the hospital from her injuries.

HARTFORD, Conn — The U.S. Marshalls and Hartford police arrested a man Friday who was wounded in a June shooting that left one woman dead.

Joseph Shannon, 40, was wanted on charges of criminal attempt of assault in the first degree, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and criminal possession of a firearm. He was wounded in the shooting. Shannon, who has a felony conviction, had a weapon on him at the time of the shooting.

Shadarean Ellison, 31, died as a result of the shooting.

Shannon had been on been on the run since June, eluding law enforcement officers. Authorities arrested him at a home in East Hartford.

Just before 11 p.m., on June 1, police were notified of shots fired via ShotSpotter on Westland Street. Hartford police dispatch also received 911 calls reporting that a woman had been shot.

When police got to the scene, they found the location of the shooting. While there, police were called by Saint Francis Hospital, which reported two gunshot victims who went there in private vehicles for treatment.

Ellison was later pronounced dead at the hospital from her injuries. Shannon, who was also shot, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Investigators said the woman appeared to be targeted. The suspect reportedly walked up to a group of five people standing outside and shot Ellison multiple times. The man was shot once, which police said may not have been intentional.

Ellison and the man were dropped off by private car at the hospital separately, and one of the drivers stuck around to speak with investigators.
