RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Story by Jackson Connelly and Zachary Fadla, Ridgefield High School

After months of back and forth in town meetings, online discourse, and much more, Ridgefield CT Pride successfully managed to get a pride in town.

The crosswalk on the corner of East Ridge Road and Governor Street painted with the colors of the pride flag on Oct. 8, along with a ribbon cutting on Nov. 1..

This step for the Ridgefield CT Pride has made an impact for everyone in Ridgefield. Mary Joyce, a mother with two kids in the LGBTQ+ community said, “The mission of our group is to foster visibility and community for our LGBTQ+ residents and members of the Ridgefield Community.”

The crosswalk supports the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community and shows that Ridgefield is a town where everyone is welcome.

Will DeFino, the president of the GSA at Ridgefield High School said, “It's a tangible reminder that these people exist and they deserve to take up as much space as you do.”

Just like stepping across a crosswalk, the Pride Crosswalk is an import step for Ridgefield CT Pride helping Ridgefield be as welcoming and inclusive as it can be.
